There is a great post by Rand Fiskin from SEOmoz which not only summarises the main areas to target but also provides a ranking to their importance. A must read for anyone interested in SEO.

HTML Head Tags
Page Title
Meta Description
Meta Keywords
Meta Robots
URL structure
Body Tags
Keyword use and keyword density

So here is the deal, I decided to spend half an hour looking for some information on link building strategies but decide to check my emails first. I’m always signing up for email newsletters from interesting blogs and business sites. I had an email inviting me to a social media webinar being run by Citrix Online. They market themselves well and always give you something to download for example a pdf on How to build an on demand webinar program.

So I followed a link to their corporate Workshifting blog and read a few posts (a good pointer to ensure you have your most popular content and recent posts so that people can easily find them). I found myself drifting off going on a link journey, the type that still holds true for the web in its early days and is still true now.

It’s still about finding and linking to good content and resources – it’s as much about giving something back as well as taking. The more you give in terms of great content and links to great resources then the more you will get back in return.

I read this post and liked the look of the laptop and travel bags as I’m currently in the market for one. Which led me on to Location Independent which had a feature on travel bags. I also stopped a while and was a bit envious of people who have decided not only to be self employed but also to this whilst travelling the world. I’ve just done the former in setting up my own business but to do both at once, wow!
So this led me to the blog of one such nomadic entrepreneur, Leigh Haugseth and a post about travelling in Central America. I have this affliction of having to read all the post comments and I followed a link to another nomad JetSetCitizen who had a post interview with a guy called Charlie Hoehn.
Charlie has done some clever stuff in not only promoting himself but also influencing and helping promote others. One of whom is Ramit Sethi who has a very popular finance and entrepreneurship blog which has some solid advice not only on managing and saving money also about marketing and promotion online. That’s where things started to repeat or link back as Ramit Sethi features Charlie’s free ebook about how to recession proof your career.

Ramit also has an enticing post title of How to get 150,000 people to read your blog post in 1 week (and how I did it) based around guest blogging once you have your own solid blog content

Which then led me back to another post on Charlie Hoehn site about how to hacking into someones mind to find smart people who you respect and can learn from via Del.icio.us

(Signing up for the email up-dates as I go, a sucker for subscribing, but a good way to get new ideas and content)

Which all goes full circle as in a circuitous way I ended up finding out aboutwhat I started out to, good ways of generating traffic and links, just by well, erm, following links… must do more of that, the internet is good that way.

The UK government’s decision to provide £1.1m in funding to help Siemens develop offshore wind power projects is a shot in the arm for the UK alternative energy generation programme. However the recent demise and negative PR surrounding the Isle of Wight Vestas plant is still very fresh in the memory.

Also commendable is the fact that Siemens are also backing a new University of Lincoln School of Engineering in, the first to be created in the UK for 20 years.

It will take this kind of corporate weight and involvement to reach the stretching alternative energy targets which lie ahead.
